Colwill, 22, suffered an ACL tear just two days into pre-season training, ruling him out for most of the 2025-26 campaign. Despite having defensive options in Trevoh Chalobah, Wesley Fofana, Tosin Adarabioyo, Benoit Badiashile, and Josh Acheampong, Maresca says another recruit is a priority.
Speaking after Chelsea’s 2-0 pre-season win over Bayer Leverkusen at Stamford Bridge, he said: “It’s a priority for me to get a new centre-back. We will see if we go for it.”
Chelsea begin their Premier League season against Crystal Palace on Sunday, August 17th.
