Manchester United target Tottenham defender who is refusing to sign a new deal

Jose Mourinho is targeting Tottenham defender Toby Aderweireld as the Belgian continues to negotiate a new deal with the Lilywhites.

The former Atletico Madrid man has been in outstanding form since he joined them from the Spanish side and has become their most important defensive partner to Jan Vetoghen.

However, his future is unclear as he has just 18 months left on his current deal and he is looking to get a new contract that will see him become one of the club’s highest earners. Tottenham do not agree with what he is demanding and they could be set to allow him to leave.

Jose Mourinho is looking to replace the duo of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling after their shambolic performances this season.

Smalling was at fault for the free kick that Newcastle converted to win the Red Devils and Jones scored an own goal in their match against Tottenham.

The Portuguese manager knows he cannot win the Premier League with a bad defence and he is looking to focus his summer spending on that area of the field.

Aderwelreid’s has a provision in his contract that would make him cost only £25 million at the end of this season.
