Liverpool confident of signing RB Leipzig star Dominik Szoboszlai

Liverpool are reportedly in advanced talks with Bundesliga side RB Leipzig over the signing of midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai.

According to The Athletic, the Reds have agreed personal terms with the Hungarian and are now in a pole position to sign him after Newcastle United dropped out of the running for his signature.

The Magpies were thought to be keen on the 22-year-old but have now cooled their interest after it emerged the player only wanted to sign for Jürgen Klopp’s side.

Szoboszlai was one of the standout players in the Bundesliga last season, as RB Leipzig finished third in the table behind Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund and won the German Cup.

Even though he is still 22, the midfielder is very experienced and currently captains the Hungarian national team.

He will reportedly join Liverpool this summer after the Premier League side indicated interest in activating his £60.1m release, which expires on June 30th.

The Reds are now confident they can agree something with the club. Liverpool and Leipzig are already in talks, with Fabio Carvalho set to join the German side on a season-long loan imminently.

Should they complete a deal for him, Szoboszlai will become their second signing of the summer after they priced Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton in a £35m deal.

The Reds could also add Manu Kone and Khepran Thuram to the ranks, with the French duo linked to moves to Anfield.

Meanwhile, since joining from Red Bull Salzburg in 2021, Szoboszlai has been a critical player for RB Leipzig. Last season, he scored ten goals in 48 appearances in all competitions, including aiding them to the German Cup.
