Liverpool owners the Fenway Sports Group is in talks to sell the Reds for the undervalue amount of $3bn.
The owners recently put the club on the market as they searched for new owners for the very successful Premier League side.
The Reds have been in fine form since they bought the club for around $400m in 2010 and they now seem keen on cashing in on it.
They will remain and continue to invest in the team until a new buyer secures it from their hand, but Mathchplug understands they have been in talks with a US-back investment group for some time now.
They are prepared to sell the club for $3bn, even though most financial analysts believe the team is worth up to $5bn at the moment.
American investors have become interested in English football, but it remains unclear if they will spend as much money as their counterparts from the middle east, who have bought the likes of Manchester City and Newcastle.
