The Kansas City Chiefs have hit another snag in their undefeated campaign, as Harrison Butker takes a leave of absence.
The Chiefs will play without Butker for 3-4 weeks, while the kicker undergoes surgery on his meniscus in his left knee. Spencer Shrader will replace Butker, who the team signed off the New York Jets’ practice squad.
Kansas officially put Harrison on injured reserve and added Shrader to the active roster on Friday.
Butker’s surgery will involve an arthroscopic surgery on his left knee to trim down his meniscus. He is expected to return ahead of the home stretch of the regular season and the playoffs. Hopefully, the clutch kicker will rejoin the Chiefs’ dream of winning their third consecutive Super Bowl title.
Harrison Butker got a huge contract extension in August, which he has backed up with a solid season. He made 18 of 20 field-goal tries and 21 of his 22 extra-point tries. Replacing him will be difficult. Kansas City has won seven of its nine matches this term by one score.
Shrader was one of few significant players for New York on Sunday, delivering both his field-goal attempts and scoring all of their points in 3-1 defeat to the Arizona Cardinals. He has competed in two career NFL matches, making all three extra-point attempts for the Indianapolis Colts in their Week 1 defeat to Houston Texans.
