Bucks fire mike budenholzer

Mike Budenholzer fired after 5 seasons as Bucks head coach

Mike Budenholzer has been fired as head coach after the Milwaukee Bucks’ first-round playoff loss. Milwaukee separated from Budenholzer on Thursday after five seasons. The news was first reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Mike’s status became a giant question mark immediately after the Bucks suffered a season-ending 128-126 overtime loss to the Miami Heat in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference playoffs. See: Jalen Brunson fires up Knicks fans after Game 2 win vs. Heat without Jimmy Butler Milwaukee was outshot 32-16 in the fourth quarter after going into the period with a 16-point lead. The defense allowed a game-tying bucket to Jimmy Butler when he caught an inbound pass in the air at the rim and laid it up with less than a second left. When speaking to reporters after the match, Mike Budenholzer did not give a good reason why the Bucks failed to use their final timeout after Butler’s layup to try to draw up a play that will in regulation. “Yeah we need to call a timeout,” he said when asked about the end of regulation. It did not do Budenholzer any favours that Giannis Antetokounmpo talked about the lack of adjustments for Butler defensively during the series. Related: Joel Embiid crowned 2022-23 NBA MVP over Nikola Jokić, Giannis Antetokounmpo The Milwaukee Bucks who had the best record in the League during the regular season, became the first No.1 seed to lose in the first round of the playoffs since the Chicago Bulls did it in 2012. They lost in the first two rounds of the postseason three times in the last four years. Milwaukee can still be a top team in the Eastern Conference if they got a new head coach, but their management has their work cut out for them with the roster this offseason. Khris Middleton could become a free agent if he does not opt into the final year of his contract. Jrue Holiday is coming into the last year of his deal, although he has an offer for $39.4 million for 2024-25. Brook Lopez, Jae Crowder and Joe Ingles will be some of the noteworthy free agents this summer. Giannis can sign an extension of three years and $173 million beginning from the offseason, but, Brian Windhorst from ESPN thinks it is “unlikely’’ to happen. Antetokounmpo has two guaranteed years left on his deal with a $51.9 million player option for 2025-26. It was Mike Budenholzer that gave the Bucks an NBA Championship during the 2020-21 season. It was their first title since the 1970-71 season. He went 271-120 with the Buck and won 51 games in four of his five years. Ex-NBA All-Star Shawn Kemp pleads not guilty to shooting case assault charges

Former NBA Player Shawn Kemp pleaded not guilty on Thursday to a first-degree assault charge which came from an alleged altercation with another man in March. Canadian Press reports. Kemp was accused of shooting a man while wanting to get back a cell phone he said was stolen from him. Read: Woman recounts how fired Detroit Pistons GM Rob Murphy harassed her for months Shawn and his lawyers have argued that the player was defending himself and only returned fire. However, Tacoma police maintain “some of his statements were not corroborated by surveillance video, and that just 13 minutes before he arrived at the mall, he sent a text message saying, ‘I’m about to shoot this [expletive],’” according to that report. Kemp narrated that he only went to his car to get a gun after he was shot at. Surveillance video seemed to show Kemp holding the gun already when he moved to a Toyota 4Runner, which police allege he had tracked his phone that day. “Kemp was adamant in his interview that he had retreated to his vehicle after he was shot at, and then shot back at the 4Runner,” a detective wrote in the charges filed against Kemp. “However, the video clearly showed Kemp getting the revolver out of the backpack as soon as he gets out of his Porsche.” Shawn allegedly fired three shots and threw his gun into a bush before the driver of the 4Runner drove away. Furthermore, Sara Jean Green from the Seattle Times reported that “prosecutors also charged a firearm enhancement that, if proven, would add a mandatory five years to any potential prison sentence.” Kemp was arrested at the time of the alleged incident but let go the following day. Shawn Kemp played 14 seasons in the NBA with the Seattle Supersonics, Cleveland Cavaliers, Portland Trail Blazers, and Orlando Magic. He was an All-Star six times and an All-NBA second-team selection three times. More NFL News: Kevin Durant will appear in ‘Call of Duty’ multiplayer

Taylor Lewan says Dr James Andrews ‘botched my knee surgery’

NFL star Taylor Lewan has accused Dr. James Andrews one of the most notable sports surgeons in the world of botching his ACL surgery two and a half years ago. According to the lawsuit filed by Lewan this week in Florida, the former Tennessee Titans left tackle alleged that Andrews caused irreversible damage when the doctor operated on his right knee after the O-lineman injured it during a game against the Houston Texans in October 2020. Related: Patrick Mahomes’ brother Jackson Mahomes arrested for aggravated sexual battery In the suit, gotten by TMZ Sports on Thursday, Lewan says Dr Andrews did not create a proper tunnel position in his knee, damaged cartilage and did not fix all his injuries during the surgery. He said the mistakes caused him severe pain and disability and eventually cut his NFL career short. The three-time Pro Bowler is asking for what could become significant damages in the suit as he was in between a five-year, $80 million contract when he had the operation. Taylor Lewan’s accusations have left people shocked, especially with Dr Andrews’s resume. The doctor works for clubs like Tampa Bay Rays, Washington Commanders and the Auburn Tigers. He has successfully operated on Michael Jordan, Drew Brees, and Adrian Peterson for decades. Lewan mentioned the claims on his “Bussin’ With The Boys’’ podcast early this week, saying the whole situation “sucked.’’ Before his 2020 injury, Taylor was one of the best linemen in the NFL. He played in only 15 games after his surgery,  before reinjuring the knee in Week 2 last season. Taylor Lewan is yet to announce his retirement, although considering the suit and comments this week, it is a simple formality at this point. Patrick Mahomes’ brother Jackson Mahomes arrested for aggravated sexual battery

Jackson Mahomes, Patrick Mahomes’ younger brother, refused to speak with members of the press as he left jail Wednesday afternoon, maintaining a stoic expression as he walked to a car. Jackson who is the little brother of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was arrested for aggravated sexual battery on Wednesday, in relation to an alleged incident at a Kansas restaurant in February. Related: 2023 NFL regular season: Eagles-Chiefs among top kickoff options He was booked at 7:45 AM and bail was set at $100,000. Court records show he was charged with three counts of aggravated sexual battery. He was also charged with one count of misdemeanour battery. Mahomes was accused of sexually and physically assaulting the owner of the Aspens Restaurant and Lounge when the older woman claimed he tried to kiss her forcibly multiple times. The owner alleges that Jackson was intoxicated early in the night and he shoved a male member of her wait staff. Aggravated sexual battery in Kansas can carry up to a 55-month sentence if the offender is convicted. Briefly after the alleged offence, his attorney, Brandan Davies, maintained that Jackson Mahomes did nothing wrong. “Our investigation has revealed substantial evidence refuting the claims of Jackson’s accuser including the statements of several witnesses. We have reached out to law enforcement to provide the fruit of our investigation so that they may have a complete picture of the matter.” The incident seemed to have been caught on surveillance video and is being investigated by the police since March. Jackson often documents his life on the internet but has been laying low for several weeks following the allegations. But he has come back to social media and attended the NFL Draft in Kansas City last week with Patrick Mahomes. In 2022 he was also recorded grabbing a woman’s face.

morgan barron gets scar from skate

NHL’s Morgan Barron shows off scar after taking a skate to his face

Morgan Barron looks like he had been inside a horror movie after he took a skate to his face this week. He showed off the face scar when speaking with reporters on Thursday. Barron met with the media before gearing up for Game 2 of the Jets’ first-round contest of the Stanley Cup Playoffs and he gave the public a first look at the damage done by the skating incident. “You know, some guys have told me it looks better than expected and some guys look at me like I’m a science project, so I’ve kind of gotten both ends of the spectrum,” Barron said. “I think it feels better than it looks.” Read: The New Jersey Devils speedily advance to the second round of NHL playoffs The Winnipeg Jets center got the injury which required 75 stitches, during the first period of his team’s 5-1 win over the Las Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday. Barron managed to come back to the game halfway through the second period after he was patched up. Morgan Barron’s scar runs from his right eye to the top of his forehead, but he is wearing his new accessory with pride and even smiling for the cameras. His eyes showed some discolouration in the aftermath. The injury could have been worse even if it is hard to believe this. When the incident happened, Vegas forward Chandler Stephenson reacted fast and pulled Barron off Golden Knights goalie Laurent Brossoit’s skate to avoid more serious damage. Barron said he would thank Stephenson before the puck dropped, adding that he will give him a stick tap as a way to convey his appreciation for his actions. matt mervis chosen by chicago cubs

Chicago Cubs powering up? Matt Mervis called in to boost offense

The Chicago Cubs intend to promote top first base prospect Matt Mervis, a source relayed to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com. Chicago is yet to confirm the news, which broke first in the midst of innings of Thursday’s series finale. Here is the back story for this development: The Cubs’ sleeping offense awoke a bit on Thursday to stage a three-run comeback before falling to a 4-3 walk-off loss to the Washington Nationals, in Washington, where Alex Call’s game-winning home run off Brad Boxberger ended Chicago’s uninspiring road trip on another disappointing note. News that reinforcements were being brought in had broken before this happened. See: Mets’ Max Scherzer struggles in return from suspension, eager to ‘move forward’ Matt Mervis was one of baseball’s best prospects in 2022 when he shelled out 36 homers across three levels and led the minor in extra-base hits, total bases and RBIs. Mervis also got off to a strong start this season with Triple-A Iowa, batting .286/.42/.560 with six home runs and 27 RBIs in 24 games. Mervis did not just continuously crush it at Major League pitching, but he showed impressive patience in Iowa too, walking (18) almost as much as he struck out (19). This is what Chicago should expect from its No.6 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline: “Mervis features the best combination of power and contact in the Cubs system, and he took off when he improved his bat path and his swing decisions. His bat speed and the strength in his 6-foot-4, 225-pound frame are obvious, but he’s more than just a masher. His relatively compact left-handed swing enables him to make consistent hard contact and he did a much better job of handling same-side pitchers in 2022 than he did in his debut.” Chicago needs to make one corresponding move to include Mervis, who is not on the 40-man roster. Their live roster features two skilled primary first basemen, Trey Mancini and Eric Hosmer, who like Mervis, have low defensive flexibility. But he will be joining a lineup that could benefit from a shot in the arm after struggling heavily in its 1-6 road trip. In total, the Cubs have averaged 3.5 runs per game and hit .180 with runners in scoring position over their past 12 games. They lost 9 of those 12. “These are definitely the moments that test teams,” said right-hander Jameson Taillon, who returned from the injured list to throw three innings in his first start since April 15. “But I think it helps that we’ve had a lot of guys who have run the race of 162 for many, many years. You know that these types of tough losses happen and you don’t want to overreact. Obviously, it’s not time to hit the panic button or anything. But I think we’re going home with maybe a sense of urgency, like, ‘Let’s step on it a little bit, get back on track.’” See also: Red Sox win Blue Jays 8-3 extend winning streak to 5 When the Cubs exited Chicago a week ago, the team was four matches over .500 and were just off a series victory against the San Diego Padres, preparing for a pair of upcoming series against two of the NL’s weaker clubs. They will take back a game lower than .500, dropping three of four to Washington despite getting fantastic pitching all week. That was delivered on Thursday by Javier Assad, who breezed through five scoreless innings behind Taillon before the offense stirred awake. Patrick Corbin staged the Cubs to two hits over the first seven innings before Mancini and Miguel Amaya tailed RBIs in the eighth. Nico Hoerner connected a game-tying single off Hunter Harvey later on in the frame, but Chicago blew a second-and-third, no-out opportunity in the ninth before Call’s first-pitch home run off Boxberger. Chicago’s offense splits so far this year are bad: First 19 games: 6.0 runs per game, .290 AVG, .820 OPS, .326 AVG w/RISP Last 12 games: 3.5 runs per game, .235 AVG, .703 OPS, .180 AVG w/RISP Another bat may help the Cubs. That is where Matt Mervis comes in, making him an anticipated MLB debut this week. “[Today] was a tough loss, for sure,” manager David Ross said. “Definitely a tough loss. But this group’s shown they don’t quit. They fight really hard.”

OT Donovan Smith signs 1-year deal with Chiefs worth up to $9M

A former Super Bowl rival, Donovan Smith is coming to Kansas City Chiefs to help their dream of becoming world champions again. The veteran Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive tackle Smith is to sign a one-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs which is worth up to $9 million, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported on Wednesday, via a source. Read: 2023 NFL regular season: Eagles-Chiefs among top kickoff options After a second-round selection of the Buccaneers in 2015, Donovan Smith constantly graced the Tampa starting lineup over the past eight seasons. He began 124 career games, with 13 last year when he suffered an elbow and foot injury. Smith who ranked 64th position as a free agent in Gregg Rosenthal’s top 101 list, played a crucial role in Tampa Bay emerging as Super Bowl champions in the 2020 season, which involved the Buccaneers led by Tom Brady defeating the Chiefs led by Patrick Mahomes. Now, the question remains if  Smith will go from protecting Brady to defending Mahomes. If everything goes as planned, Smith will oversee the left tackle spot, Pelissero said. Another large signing for Kansas City this offseason was bringing in ex-Jacksonville Jaguars right tackle Jawaan Taylor. Taylor was expected to move to left tackle after signing a four-year, $80 million deal.  Early this week, in a post-draft news conference, the general manager for the Chiefs, Brett Veach affirmed that Taylor would “run left tackle with the ones,” while Lucas Niang and third-round pick Wanya Morris would compete for the right tackle spot. Adding Donovan Smith to the lineup would change some of the Chiefs’ plans. No matter how it plays out, the Chiefs have acquired a 29-year-old veteran tackle who is championship material to their plans for a repeat. Isaiah Foskey wants to learn from Cam Jordan

Isaiah Foskey Saints rookie DE wants an opportunity to learn from Cam Jordan

Freshly-drafted New Orleans Saints defensive end Isaiah Foskey hopes to be the next Cameron Jordan. However, playing alongside his idol would be okay too. Jordan who set the sack record for the Saints in January, is the poster child for defense presently. As coach Dennis Allen mentioned, he’s not a bad player to have a mentee either. See: The five most improved clubs of the 2023 NFL offseason “I guess if you’re going to try to learn from somebody, that would be a good one to learn from,” Allen said. “It’s no wonder the Saints’ second-round pick is eager to meet the player he calls a “Hall of Famer’ type of guy.” Foskey and Jordan share the same record-setting mentality, with Foskey holding Notre Dame’s record of 26.5 career sacks. “They’ve been playing football for a little while, so we felt like he was a pretty good player for us,” Allen said smiling after the draft. But, Isaiah Foskey who was chosen with the 40th pick last week, has more ahead than a mere learning chance. He and defensive tackle Bryan Bresee, New Orleans’ first-round pick, have the power to set their marks on a reformed defensive line. “I wanted to go to a team that’s defensive, d-line pretty much, oriented,” Foskey said. “That first pick, Bryan Bresee, me and him are going to be dominating the front seven, so that’s great.” The possibility of becoming a Saint was something Foskey wanted from the start. He met the coaches in the spring through video chats, film study, and in-person visits at the NFL scouting combine, Notre Dame’s Pro Day and the Senior Bowl. As things were unveiled, Isaiah Foskey held on to the idea of joining New Orleans. “I fell in love with them, love the coaches, I talked to them a lot. Just the vibe of the whole team, New Orleans,” Foskey said. “I kept telling everybody, this is who I want to go to.” Isaiah probably also fell in love with the empty slate on the depth chart. Besides Jordan, his biggest competitors are 2021 first-round pick Payton Turner (13 career games, 3 sacks) and Carl Granderson (54 career games, 14.5 sacks). Considering the way the Saints rushers are rotated, there are good chances for everybody. Bresee and Foskey are the newest and youngest faces in a team that did an overhaul. Defensive tackles David Onyemata, Shy Tuttle and Kentavius Street were replaced with free-agent selections Khalen Saunders and Nathan Shepherd. Marcus Davenport who was heavily invested in by New Orleans in the first round of the 2018 draft, went with the Minnesota Vikings after spending five seasons and delivering 21.5 sacks in New Orleans. The Saints have a new defensive coordinator and new defensive line coach too. Jordan aged 33 is the only player in the room above age 30, and his longtime teammates leaving have been a bittersweet experience for him. He mused before the draft that Onyemata, who joined the Atlanta Falcons, was one of the last linemen in the locker room that was close to his age. However, as sad as Cameron has been to watch his teammates leave, he’s been stoked about the draft all offseason, tweeting mock draft selections and hinting at the need for a defensive tackle for New Orleans. “No, that’s exciting. No such thing as a mass exodus for me,” Jordan told ESPN prior to the draft. He added: “I think that when you have guys that you played with, and you see them get paid, I’m excited for them, like, ‘Hey Shy, way to make your money,’ or ‘Hey David, how could you go to the dark side? You know, why would you go to the losing side?’ … You think about guys going to different teams, and you understand it’s part of the game.” In a few ways, Jordan is a reminder of the Saints’ past. When he was chosen in the first round of the 2011 draft at 6-foot-4, he was one of the tallest guys on the defensive line. Defensive tackle Turk McBride who signed on as a free agent in 2011, was the only other lineman of the same height. Now, Cameron is one of the shortest. The New Orleans Saints since then, have consistently evolved their prototypes, striving to grow and get taller in front. Foskey (6-5) and Bresee (6-5) align with this trend. “Not a lot of big men walking the earth right now that have that type of athleticism. You know what I mean? There’s just not very many of them,” Allen said. “They’re a top priority for us. It’s a big man’s game. I’ve said that all along, we like size, length, athleticism, and the prototypes that we talk about are a big part of what we do. I think we philosophically believe that the ability to control the line of scrimmage is important in winning football games. So yeah, it’s been a point of emphasis for us.” However, Jordan’s success is attributed to more than just height or physical characteristics, and Foskey who boxes as one of the ways to hone and study his pass-rushing technique, knows this. It is something he and Al Washington, his defensive line coach at Notre Dame, talked about. “You think about Cam Jordan, he’s arguably one of the best defensive linemen in the game,” Washington said. “I think what makes Cam unique is not so much the physical, it’s the way he views the game, his intelligence. I think he makes great decisions, and he has years of experience to look to. For Isaiah, him coming in Day 1, he should be a sponge to a guy like that because really it’s almost like a passing of a torch. “I know Cam is not done, but I think it really will help a player like Isaiah, who is intuitive and passionate about the game. I think he absolutely will take advantage of that and being in that locker room.” This is something

MLS Toronto FC ranked 24th most valuable football club in the world

According to a report by Sportico, Toronto FC is the 24th most valuable football club in the world with a present value of $705 million. This report placed the Reds one position behind Dutch club Ajax ($710 million USD) and one ahead of MLS side D.C. United ($700 million). Amongst other MLS clubs, Toronto ranks behind four teams: the Seattle Sounders (22nd, $725 million), Atlanta United (18th, $855 million), LA Galaxy (17th, $865 million), and LAFC (16th, $900 million). In total, there were 18 MLS clubs in the top 50, with an accumulated value of $11.8 billion. MLS had more clubs represented in the top 50 than any other league globally. Sportico also reported that Toronto made $64 million in 2022, an amount that is $28 million higher than the club’s total amount in 2021. Ontario’s COVID-19 restrictions ended, and several marquee signings, including Lorenzo Insigne and Federico Bernadeschi, not only saw many Toronto FC fans return to the BMO Field but the general public too. Speaking on the club’s $705 million valuation, it should be noted that its owners MLSE paid only $10 million as an expansion fee for the MLS club before the team’s inaugural season in 2007. To put this in perspective, Charlotte FC paid a huge sum of $325 million in expansion fees to kick off in 2022. Toronto FC is operated by Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE), this company also runs the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs, the NBA’s Toronto Raptors, and the Toronto Argonauts in the CFL.
