Manchester United interested in Brazilian teens Luis Guilherme and Lorran

English Premier League giants, Manchester United have cast its net into the Brazilian youth football market. Manchester’s chief John Murtough is scouting Palmeiras midfielder Luis Guilherme and Flamengo winger Lorran. Both Brazilian footballers are 17 years old. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano says: “Keep an eye on United in South America because they sent scouts, as well as Chelsea, to follow Lorran from Flamengo. “United scouts were in attendance, but from what I’m hearing there’s one more player being monitored. “This is Luis Guilherme. Someone from United’s scouting department is travelling around Brazil to keep an eye on these players. “Let’s see what’s going to happen, on Guilherme are more than five important European clubs, from Germany, England, and other countries. “Let’s see what United decide to do because they are scouting many players in South America.”

Benfica’s João Mário speaks: “We were the team that wanted it the most”

Fans had to wait until ‘90+3’ to celebrate the António Silva goal that gave Benfica 3 points against Estroil (0-1), at Estádio António Coimbra da Mota. Midfielder João Mário analyzed the game, while also highlighting the importance of a fair win, in a “difficult game’’. “We faced a good opponent, whose quality is not represented by their position. A very well-organized team, physically strong… They played good, they had merit. We had several chances that we could not materialize during the game, and that’s it”, analyzed João Mário, in the flash Interview, just after the final whistle. “They had some opportunities, just like us, especially in the first half. When you play away and don’t score right away, the game gets harder, but we deserved the win. We were the team that wanted it the most and created more goal opportunities”, added the midfielder. When asked about the significance of the triumph at Amoreira, João Mário had no doubts: “There will be a break [national teams], yes, but there was also a loss [Inter Milan] and we wanted to react. We did it, and in this game, we have to focus on the three points, which is the most important thing.”

psg bounce back from newcastle disgrace

PSG bounce back from Newcastle disgrace with Rennes win

Luis Enrique understood that he needed to respond after suffering a 4-1 loss to Newcastle United in the Champions League in midweek, and PSG delivered their answer last Sunday night. Paris Saint-Germain took on undefeated Rennes at Roazhon Park in Ligue 1. Vitinha stood in for Randal Kolo Muani in the line-up and got himself on the scoresheet in a 3-1 victory. The Parisians had a shaky start when Arnaud Kalimuendo-Muinga tested Gianluigi Donnarumma on six minutes, inducing a good save. Vitinha’s efforts were what broke the deadlock with an excellent strike from 20 yards out, curling the ball into the top corner beyond Steve Mandanda. PSG delivered an opener that subdued Rennes and Acharaf Hakimi exploited this laps four minutes later, doubling his team’s lead. Warren Zaire-Emery assisted Luca Hernandez’s goal in England on Wednesday and this time he added another inch-perfect delivery for the fullback. He did well to place his header beyond Mandanda to compound the hosting team’s woes. Amine Gouiri pulled one back for Rennes, giving them hope with a strong header, but it was shortlived as Muani entered the field and played like someone who had a point to make. Entering immediately after Rennes’ goal, Muanu scored with his first touch to tap in a cross from Ousmane Dembele, later scoring a second goal which was ruled as an offside in the build-up. This result now means that PSG can benefit from Brest’s draw with Toulouse to regain their spot in the top three of Ligue 1. With eight matches played, the current champions are two points behind AS Monaco and one behind Nice.

messi to return to barcelona

Messi to return to Barcelona on loan with Inter Miami eliminated from MLS playoffs

After they lost 0-1 to Eastern Conference leaders FC Cincinnati last Saturday night, Inter Miami where Lionel Messi plays, have officially been eliminated from the MLS playoffs. While they have two matches left, home and on the road to Charlotte FC on 19 and 21 October, Inter Miami will no longer gather enough points to secure their place in the playoffs. Miami is 14th on the league table, one place above Toronto in the 15th. After their match on October 21st, Inter Miami will not play another game in the MLS until late February 2024, making Messi available for loan to any other clubs that want to have him. La Liga’s Barcelona FC, where Messi played for 17 seasons is being linked to his return. According to a report by Football Espana, Inter Miami, was rock bottom in the MLS standing and them reaching the playoffs seemed like an impossible task until Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba arrived in the summer. Miami was advancing on the table, until the ex-Barca player suffered an injury last month, which saw him miss several games over the last few weeks. Messi came back to the field last Saturday night, but could not save the club from losing. That loss signifies that their two games against Charlotte FC later this month, will be their last one of the season. Since Messi made his debut, Inter won only one of the six games he missed and lost just one of the 13 he played.

maple leafs trade lafferty to canucks

Maple Leafs trade Lafferty to Canucks for 5th-round pick in 2024 NHL Draft

The Toronto Maple Leafs traded Sam Lafferty to the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday for a fifth-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft. Lafferty who became an unrestricted free agent after this season, had 27 points (12 goals, 15 assists) in 70 games for the Maple Leafs and Chicago Blackhawks last season, and three points (one goal, two assists) in nine Stanley Cup Playoff games. Toronto bought him in a trade with the Blackhawks on February 27th. “I talked to a couple of his former coaches, (they) gave him some good reviews,” Canucks coach Rick Tocchet said. “Kind of a heavier, kind of grittier guy, really good skater, can score some goals. It’s a chance to acquire a little bit of a stickier guy. That’s why I think we did it. “He’s a penalty killer, too. I think him and Teddy (Blueger) PK’d together in Pittsburgh. When a guy’s kind of a bigger guy and grittier and can skate, you got to take a look at guys like that. What did he have, 13-14 goals last year? He can score some goals, which helps us, too.” Chosen by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the fourth round (No. 113) of the 2014 NHL Draft, Lafferty has 59 points (23 goals, 36 assists) in 210 regular-season games for the Maple Leafs, Blackhawks and Penguins. “As we work towards becoming a tougher team to play against, Sam will add some grit and sandpaper to our lineup,” Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin said. “We also like the way he skates and can back players off with his speed. He is a good addition to our forward group and has shown he can also use his speed effectively in a penalty-killing role.” Vancouver will open their season against the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Arena on Wednesday (10 p.m. ET; SN1, SNE, SNO, SNP).

rangers blow past orioles to go home

Rangers blow past Orioles, go home with 2-0 lead

Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy has rotated a number of players through the three-hole in recent weeks, to no avail. The Rangers’ three-hole hitter had a .143 average through three postseason matches entering Game 2 of the American League Division Series on Sunday. Enter Mitch Garver. Garver, made his postseason debut as a designated hitter for Texas, delivering a 419-foot grand slam deep over the left-field wall in the third inning, giving the Rangers an early 9-2 lead in a final 11-8 win over the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards to go up 2-0 in the series. It was just the second postseason grand slam in Texas Rangers history, including Nelson Cruz’s walk-off in the 11th inning in Game 2 of the 2011 ALCS against Detroit. “I got a good pitch to hit, honestly,” Garver told FS1’s Ken Rosenthal in an in-game interview. “I was a little hesitant on the first pitch. I was kind of looking for the slider. Wasn’t quite where I wanted it. Worked myself into a count where I could get a fastball. I had a feeling he wasn’t going to go offspeed in a 3-1 count with the bases loaded, so I took my shot.” Garver’s five RBIs tied to Rangers’ postseason single-game record, done twice previously: Cruz in the 2011 ALCS and Michael Young in Game 6 of the same series. Eleven runs is the second-highest Texas has scored in a postseason game in franchise history, with the highest being 15 in Game 6 of the 2011 ALCS against Detroit. Baltimore took an early 2-0 over the Rangers, tagging starter Jordan Montogomery with three hits and a walk in the first inning. But Texas punched back with a five-spot in the top of the second inning before Garver broke it open with his grand slam in the third. “I would just say controlling the strike zone,” Garver told Rosenthal on the broadcast. “We really didn’t really chase out of the zone too much, minus that first inning. We’re working walks, getting guys on base, using the whole field and just playing good offense.” Related MLB News: Randy Arozarena’s mom throws first pitch at first MLB game.

deandre ayton wants new beginning

Deandre Ayton wants ‘new beginning’ with Trail Blazers

Portland Center Deandre Ayton made a promise to Portland Trail Blazers fans as the team started a season of uncertainty. “I bring dominance,” he said. “My name is DominAyton.” Ayton joined Portland in the three-team trade that sent Damian Lillard to the Milwaukee Bucks. He was smiling ear-to-ear when he was introduced this week, mugging for cameras and looking forward to a fresh start after playing for five years with the Phoenix Suns. “New beginning,” Ayton said. “I get to show the world, show you guys who I am as a player on and off the court. Helping the young guys on this team win. Teaching them how to win.” Ayton will be filling the shoes of Jusuf Nurkic who was sent to Suns as part of the blockbuster trade last season. The Blazers signed Robert Williams III in a trade with the Boston Celtics, and due to this, the Trail Blazers now have a team of 25-year-old big men who have been on teams that played in the NBA Finals. “We are going to put a lot of pressure on the paint on the offensive end, and defensively we will protect the rim,” coach Chauncey Billups said. “It’s going to be a lot of fun.” Ayton, the No.1 pick in the 2018 draft, averaged 18 points and 10.0 rebounds in 67 matches with Phoenix last season but it seems his time with the Suns was ending. He signed a four-year deal with the Indiana Pacers last year before the Suns matched it, and rumours spread this summer that he would be traded. Billups emphasized that Portland would not ask Deandre Ayton to run the show, like Joel Embiid with the Philadelphia 76ers or Nikola Jokic with the Denver Nuggets. The Trail Blazers in the post-Lillard era would be more of a team effort. “We’re not bringing in Deandre for him to be Embiid, where we’re gonna throw him the ball 30 times a game and say, ‘Alright, go be MVP.′ That’s not gonna be his role. However, he probably will have a more expanded role than he had at Phoenix,” Billups said. “But again, like we’ve got a lot of young guys that are gonna be trying to figure it out. Y’all know how I feel about connectivity and being connected and those things take a lot of time.” For his career, Ayton averaged 16.7 points, 10.4 rebounds and one block per game. He was a key ingredient in Phoenix’s run to the NBA Finals in 2021. The next season, the Suns finished with the best record in the League. Last season, Phoenix was eliminated by Denver in the second round of the playoffs. Ayton did not play in Game 6 of the series because of an injury to his rib. Blazers general manager Joe Cronin maintains that Ayton has not reached his potential yet. “Especially with big men, it takes a lot to get to where their peak is. I think Deandre is at least a couple of years from that,” Cronin said. For his part, Deandre Ayton said he was going to change the narrative. “I’m in an organization that wants me and wants me to succeed. So there’s a lot more passion when you feel that mentally, you’ve seen it physically as well,” he said. “So there will be a lot more grit and a lot more domination this year.” Related News: NBA Players discuss the new participation policy.

bill belichick to start all over

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick to ‘start all over’ after second successive blowout loss

Bill Belichick is searching for answers after the New England Patriots witnessed another blowout loss.  Last Sunday’s 34-0 defeat by the New Orleans Saints was the biggest home loss Belichick has ever seen as a head coach. Plus last week’s 35-point drubbing at the hands of the Dallas Cowboys which is the largest defeat of his coaching career. Belichick’s frustrations are growing and his patience in the Patriots is thinning. “Obviously, it was a poor performance today here,” Bill Belichick said after the game on Sunday. “Plain and simple, we’ve got to find a way to play and coach better than that. So let’s go start all over and get back on a better track than we’re on right now. Slow start, and then just couldn’t, could never really get the game under control.” Teams don’t usually “start all over’’ after five games into a season, but Belichick, who was cagey as usual after the loss, said he’s “done it before’’ in the past. What his reset won’t include is a quarterback change despite pulling Mac Jones for a second successive game. “It was 31-0 at the end of the third quarter,” Bill Belichick said when asked why he took Jones out. He later confirmed Jones would remain the starter, saying, “There was a lot of problems — it certainly wasn’t all on him.” Jones was on the sidelines watching, as New England took the field for its first offensive possession for the fourth quarter. The third-year QB never recovered from what was a tough start after throwing a pick-six before finding his first completion in the game. Even when the Patriots gained some traction on the ensuing possession, Chad Ryland fumbled a 48-yarder, which ended up being the closest New England would come to scoring in the whole game. “Really just not being ready to go, I guess,” said Jones, who finished 12-of-22 passing with two interceptions and a fumble. “As an offense, you want to go out there, you’ve practised all week, and you feel confident. So, definitely want to get improvement on that. Not any of these games are not starting off very hot, so just gotta improve.” The Patriots managed a season-low 156 yards of total offense against the Saints and could not reach the red zone. With a rushing attack mustering only 45 yards (2.5 YPC), an offensive line offering shaky protection and wideout Ty Montogomery dropping a pass that resulted in a second INT, Jones’ struggling on Sunday should not be seen as an individual failure. New England’s center David Andrews of the club’s longest-tenured players and leaders on the team also recognizes the overall issues plaguing the team that has not found the end zone since the second quarter of Week 3. “I got belief in everybody,” Andrews told reporters after the game. “I got belief. If they’re on this football team, they’re here for a reason, right, including myself, including everybody in that locker room, right? We’re all here for a reason, we’re all here for a purpose. We just gotta go out there, do a better job as a football team overall. We’ve got to do a better job helping him. Everybody’s gotta do a better job.” Related News: Ex-NFL player Russ Francis killed alongside 2 others in Lake Placid plane crash.
