NBA suspends Joel Embiid for pushing a member of the media

Joel Embiid has been suspended for three matches without pay for shoving a media personnel. Executive Vice President, Head of Basketball Operations Joe Dumars announced this on Tuesday. Embiid shoved the reporter in the Philadelphia 76ers locker room after their 127-107 defeat to the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday at Wells Fargo Center. “Mutual respect is paramount to the relationship between players and media in the NBA,” Dumars said.  “While we understand Joel was offended by the personal nature of the original version of the reporter’s column, interactions must remain professional on both sides and can never turn physical.” Joel’s suspension will begin on the next NBA regular-season match he is eligible and able to feature in.

Raiders hire Norv Turner as senior advisor after firings

The Las Vegas Raiders have added veteran NFL coach Norv Turner to their coaching staff. The former Las Vegas head coach will be rejoining the team as a senior advisor, the Raiders announced on Tuesday. Additionally, Turner’s son, Scott, was also promoted from pass game coordinator to interim offensive coordinator. Joe Philbin is now the interim offensive line coach.  Las Vegas sacked offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, QB coach Rich Scangarello and offensive line coach James Cregg after Sunday’s loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.  Norv Turner led the Raiders in 2004-05 when Al Davis was still the owner. He gathered a 9-23 record over those two seasons. Turner had a 114-122-1 record with the Washington Commanders, Oakland and San Diego, in the 15 NFL seasons he served as head coach.  As one of the most respected offensive minds in the NFL, Turner will correct the mistakes of the three assistants head coach Antonio Pierce fired.  He has not had an NFL job since working as a special assistant to Carolina Panthers’ head coach in 2019 after a short time as offensive coach.

Jerry Jones: QB Dak Prescott ‘likely’ to join injured reserve

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones announced on Tuesday that Dak Prescott might join the injured reserve. This will put Jones out of the lineup for at least four matches.  “It’s likely we’ll IR him,” Jones said on his weekly radio hit on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas. “We’ll see how his rehab goes.” However, even before Dallas has fully understood Prescott’s current status, they are already preparing for his absence.  “It’s an extended period of time here, so I wouldn’t dare make a prediction when it could be,” Jones said. Prescott wounded his hamstring in Sunday’s 27-21 defeat to the Atlanta Falcons. He left the game early in the fourth quarter after the Falcons got a two-score lead. Prescott finished 18 of 24 passes for 133 yards and touchdown while running three times for 30 yards.  Cooper Rush substituted for Prescott and completed 13 of 25 passes for 115 yards and one touchdown.  Despite Dallas’ record and Prescott injured, they traded for wideout Jonathan Mingo from the Carolina Panthers in place of 2025 draft picks on Tuesday.

Acuña, Strider not expected to be fully recovered by Opening Day

After fighting injuries for most of the 2024 campaign, the Atlanta Braves are gearing up to begin the 2025 campaign short staffed. This will be hard for Atlanta, especially with Ronald Acuña Jr’s inevitable absence.  Alex Anthopoulous while speaking to reporters on Tuesday said that neither Acuña nor Spencer Strider will be ready to resume playing by Opening Day.  Acuña is still healing from left knee surgery to fix a torn ACL he got on May 26 in Pittsburgh. He was limited to only 49 matches last campaign after heading the Majors in hits (217), runs (149), stolen bases (73) and on-base percentage (.416) enroute to win the 2023 NL MVP Award.  He was also the first player in AL/NL history to record a 40-70 season.  Meanwhile, Strider was limited to only two starts last season before undergoing surgery on his right elbow in April. This was immediately after he finished fourth in NL Cy Young Award voting in 2923. Strider went 20-5 with a 3.86 ERA and headed the Majors with 281 strikeouts.

Benfica legend afraid to lose Carreras to Manchester United

Former Benfica defender Alvaro Magalhaes has some worries about losing Alvaro Fernandez Carreras, a key player for the club. The Primeira Liga side signed Carreras from Manchester United permanently during the summer transfer window.  Considering his noteworthy performance in local games, Magalhaes believes that Manchester boos Ruben Amorim will trigger a buy-back clause to get Carreras back to Old Trafford in January.  Magalhaes, while speaking to A Bola, said: “I only fear that Ruben Amorim will take him to Manchester United. “It seems to me that he has the quality to be one of the first options and looking at the squad I believe that with the new coaching staff he could be a possibility again, especially because the new coach knows him very well from what he saw of him at Benfica.” “The decision is not just in the club’s hands,” Magalhaes said.

Inter Miami boss Martino end rumours about a Neymar reunion

Inter Miami coach Tata Martino cannot promise that Al Hilal player Neymar will join his club. Although Neymar just bought property in Miami, his former Barca coach has played down the possibility of a reunion.  Martino said: “The thing is that we are throwing names around for the sake of it. You can’t talk so easily and freely about footballers who might or might not come. I think that when we talk about this, we need another kind of support. “We can’t talk and mention a player just because he bought a house or because he started dating a girl from Fort Lauderdale. It would be nonsense. First, we have to analyze what the league offers and if this is really possible. Based on that, today this is impossible, so there is no more continuity in the conversation.” The Argentine also said: “If all those who buy a house are going to come and play for Inter, we are in trouble, so they should close the real estate agency.” (He joked). I arrived at Barcelona at the same time as Ney, it was a good year and for me being able to manage players of such high standing will be a special memory, but nothing more than that.”
