William Nylander sidelined for the Maple Leafs due to illness

William Nylander did not show up for practice with the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday due to an illness and it is uncertain if he will be available against the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday.  “It’s up in the air right now,” coach Craig Berube said. “We will see how he feels later on. I’ll find out more later but hopefully he is fine. We will see.” Nylander practiced on Monday after scoring two goals in 20:52 in the Maple Leafs’ 4-2 victory against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday.  John Tavares came back to practice after being absent in the match between Pittsburgh and Monday practice due to an illness. “It’s been a battle for a few days,” Tavares said. “Unfortunately that’s the way it goes sometimes so it’s still kind of coming around, just getting my energy back. I lost a little bit of weight too but that’s been improving and getting better.” In Tavares’ absence, Maxi Domi centered a line alongside left wing Bobb McMann and right wing Max Pacioretty. Tavares was between left wing Pontus Holmberg and right wing Nicholas Robertson.  “Great to see J.T. out there today,” Berube said. “He looked like he was low energy, it’s hard but he’s a good pro, he got out today, got sweaty and I’m sure he’ll feel better later.” Goalie Joseph Woll showed up for the second day in a row to practice, but left before the match. Woll missed all of the Maple Leafs’ first three matches due to a lower body injury.  “He’s improving,” Berube said. “Went out there again on the ice today. No issues after yesterday on the ice which is great news. There’s a good chance he could be with us in practice tomorrow morning.”

Freddie Freeman stun teammates with sacrifice

Freddie Freeman was expected to sit out in the Los Angeles Dodgers VS New York Yankees game. But before Los Angeles announced their lineup, he came out of the home dugout and performed his pregame drills. Freeman limped all throughout his high knees and seemed uneasy running down the first-base line.  “No chance,” shortstop Miguel Rojas said when he was asked if he expected Freeman to dress up for the match. “I had it [at] like 5%, especially the way he got here [that afternoon]. I don’t think anybody expected him to play. It was a borderline miracle.” Most players would have nursed their injury, but Freeman played through a bone bruise that kept him absent for four to six weeks. He approached Dave Roberts and Andrew Friedman and asked them to put him in the lineup.  “I told Charlie, ‘I don’t know if Daddy is going to be able to play today,’’Freeman said, referencing a conversation he had with his son. As the playoffs continue, Freddie’s status will remain a game-time decision. According to Roberts, Freeman will be in the starting lineup, until he is not. But as limps for each match, he continues to bring his best for the team, posting an average of .273 in six matches.  “I think we all believe that if you sacrifice something, then it means more,” Roberts said. “He’s sacrificing his body right now. He’s doing a lot that people don’t know about to stay on the field. And so, when he’s doing that, it means more to him.” Since Freeman suffered a sprain on September 26th, he has practically lived in the trainer’s room. On matchdays, he shows up hours before his teammates. First, he will decrease the swelling, a process made harder by playing through injury.  When he and the trainers have worked on that, the first baseman than tests out the new procedure on the pitch. He does as much pregame drills as he can manage. Freeman takes some ground balls at first base and tries simulating breaking to the bag.  “What he’s doing for us has been unbelievable,” Muncy said. “You can’t ask a guy to go out there and put his body on the line every single night like that. I know it’s the playoffs, but what he’s doing has been Gladiator-style for us. We definitely appreciate it.” Everytime Freeman plays, he stuns his teammates. Before Game 4 of the NDLS, as Los Angeles faced elimination against the San Diego Padres, it was the team’s turn to pay Freddie back. He couldn’t play in consecutive matches.  “We all told Freddie, ‘We got you,’” Muncy said. “Then, we showed up in [Game 5] and he said, ‘Don’t worry, guys. I got you tonight.’’

Mainz 05 – RB Leipzig

Mainz 05 faces RB Leipzig at the MEWA ARENA in Mainz in a fixture from the 7th round of the Bundesliga. This is probably the best moment to stay with us and these free soccer tips for today. Are you ready? Mainz 05 are currently sitting at 10th place in the league with 8 points won. The team’s record shows two wins, two draws and two losses from six matches played. But we have to mention that Mainz recorded two wins from the last three matches – maybe they are starting to improve. Before the break Mainz paid a visit to St. Pauli and recorded a pretty good 3-0 win. Jonathan Burkardt and Armindo Sieb scored in the second half while Burkardt again scored after the break. The 24-years old striker now has 5 league goals since the beginning of the season. He’s doing pretty well! Mainz’ head coach Bo Henriksen most probably will use a similar line-up to the one he used against St. Pauli – it gave him success after all. The player in-form Jonathan Burkardt will lead the attack while Armindo Sieb and Lee Jae-Sung will start close to him. Kaishu Sano and Nadiem Amiri will have the task to run the midfield for Mainz. Kohr, Jenz and Leitsch are the ones who played in defense in the last game. RB Leipzig are proving once again that they are one of the best German teams at the moment. The Red Bulls are second in the standings with 14 points and a record of four wins and two draws. Alongside Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig are the only unbeaten team since the beginning of the season. That’s a pretty good job by the manager Marco Rose. Before the break RB Leipzig achieved their 4th win for the season. The Red Bulls faced Heidenheim away from home and one goal was enough for a 1-0 win. The Belgian international Lois Openda scored the winning goal after the halftime break. He was assisted by Antonio Nusa and put the ball in the net. It was Openda’s 4th goal in six matches played. Certainly he’s doing a pretty good job and he’s one of Leipzig’s main players at the moment. And while Openda shines, Benjamin Sesko could do a little bit better. The Slovenian striker is highly-rated, but so far he has scored just twice in the league. It’s up to him to win himself a move to some of the European giants, but he needs some more focused effort. Xavi Simons is another player who is crucial for Leipzig. The Dutch international is just 21-years old, too, but he’s playing like an experienced player already. Xavi is one of the creative forces in RB Leipzig’s team and he’s a dangerous one. That’s the free soccer tips for today for the upcoming Bundesliga clash between Mainz 05 and RB Leipzig on Saturday. Leipzig are certainly favorites here, but keep an eye on Mainz – they are playing decent football since the start of the season. Maybe they will cause some trouble here!

PIF ambitions still unchanged at Newcastle

Newcastle United Chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan is still stoked about the team’s PIF future.  Al-Rumayyan is a representative for Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) and their investment in Newcastle.  There has been speculation that PIF are reconsidering the plans for Castle.  But a source told ChronicleLive: “There is a big picture. It’s on track, the ambition was set three years ago to make the club competitive again at the highest level and that hasn’t changed. “There has been a lot done on and off the pitch in the last three years. They want sustainable success and they don’t want to be a flash in the pan. “The tone from the top is exactly the same as three years ago.”

Bayern watched Penders for months before Chelsea swooped in

Chelsea passed over Bayern Munich to draft Genk goalkeeper Mike Penders last month. They signed him before accepting to loan him back to Genk for the campaign. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Bayern scouted Mike for months, but the Blues swooped in.  Chelsea signed Penders for €20m and then loaned him back to Genk.  Last week, Genk teammate Tolu Arokodare while speaking to Tribalfootball said about Penders: “He is a good person, a good professional  and he is very hardworking. We should expect the best from him. “I must admit that it is difficult to score against him in training and we do our best to help one another improve. “We should expect nothing but the best from him and talking about our reaction when Chelsea signed him. Well,  we were not really surprised because we know the qualities he possesses.”
