Liverpool vs Real Madrid: Preview and Expert Football Prediction

Six-time UEFA Champions League winners Liverpool will welcome current holders and 14-time champions Real Madrid to Anfield this Tuesday for the first leg of the round of 16 tie.

The struggling Reds qualified for this tournament round after narrowly finishing second in Group A behind a rampant Napoli side. They recorded five wins in six UCL group stage outings, scoring 17 times and conceding six goals.

So, despite their poor performance in domestic competitions this season, they have maintained their high standards in Europe. However, things have been better recently, with back-to-back 2-0 wins in league action against Everton and Newcastle, moving them closer to the top four in the Premier League table.

But this fixture hasn’t always gone Liverpool’s way in recent times. Jurgen Klopp’s men are winless against their Spanish counterparts in the last six H2Hs (D1, L5). However, they are always strong at Anfield, where they have lost only one of their last 23 home games (W16, D6).

But Real Madrid wouldn’t care about Anfield and its famed atmosphere as they have the psychological advantage in this fixture. Los Blancos beat Liverpool to win the trophy last season despite playing worse than the Reds.

They qualified for this tie by finishing top of Group F, with four wins, one draw and one loss, while scoring 15 times and conceding six.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side are in good form, too, as they have won each of their last four fixtures with a mammoth 15 goals amassed in that time. So, they will fancy their chances here even though they have won only once in their last seven UCL visits to England (D2, L4). That said, we can expect an under 2.5 goals outing in this fixture, given how cagey things can get when both sides meet.

Modric wants to stay at Real Madrid despite Jude Bellingham’s links

Veteran Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric wants to stay at Real Madrid despite his side’s links to Borussia Dortmund wonder kid Jude Bellingham.

The 37-year-old, who has won five Champions League trophies and three Spanish league titles since joining Real Madrid from Tottenham eleven years ago, signed a one-year extension with the Spanish champions at the end of last season.

But he is approaching the end of his contract and still needs to determine whether this will be his last season with the La Liga club, especially considering his age.

Speaking about his future, the veteran midfielder revealed he hasn’t spoken to Madrid about an extension, even if he wants to remain at the club.

“About my new contract, I can’t tell you anything about it as I’ve not spoken to the club yet,” said the Croatia international.

“You don’t have these conversations mid-season. I’m very relaxed. I’m not annoyed by it whatsoever.

“It’s a bit boring getting asked that question because it’s the same answer. I want to carry on here, I want to stay, I feel good, and I want to continue as part of Real Madrid.

“I’d like to deserve to stay on my own merit, not that someone gives it on a freebie.

“No one has given me anything for free in my career, and I don’t want that to happen now.

Manchester United want to sell Scott McTominay

Manchester United are willing to listen to offers for midfielder Scott McTominay according to a report from Football Insider.

The Red Devils want to continue their squad improvement and overhaul under Erik ten Hag and have identified some key squad members they will sell this summer. Among them is McTominay, who they hope to sell in the summer to increase the transfer funds.

The 26-year-old lost his place in the first team to Casemiro this season but has managed to play 25 times in all competitions for the Red Devils.

He is valued at €30 million and has attracted interest from Newcastle United. In his place, Manchester United will go for West Ham United captain Declan Rice.

Bayern Munich want Ceballos this summer

Bayern Munich are reportedly interested in signing Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos this summer.

The Spanish midfielder has enjoyed little success at Santiago Bernabeu but has found a new lease on life this season. He has made 26 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring once and assisting six times.

His contract in Madrid will expire this summer, and there has been suggestions that Los Blancos are ready to offer him a new deal. However, according to Relevo’s Matteo Moretto and Sergio Santos, Bayern Munich will try to bring him to Allianz Arena as coach Julian Nagelsmann believes he fits perfectly with the brand of football he wants his team to play.

So far, there is only interest on Bayern’s part, and they have yet to make a formal offer or contact the player. Also, Ceballos isn’t keen on leaving as he is enjoying the success that has eluded him for years in Madrid, where he has gained the coach’s and fans’ trust.

Torino vs Cremenose: Preview and Expert Football Prediction

Torino will welcome Cremonese to Stadio Olimpico di Torino this Monday for the 23rd round of the 2022/23 Serie A season.

Torino come into this tie on the back of a narrow 1-0 loss to AC Milan away from home. However, a quick glance at the table might indicate that Torino is on the verge of breaking into Serie A’s top six.

However, they also start this round nine points adrift of sixth place. So, they still have a long way to go to achieve their aim. Ahead of this tie, they will fancy their chances of registering a sixth straight successive Serie A win against newly-promoted opposition for the first time since 1950.

Cremonese offers the perfect opportunity for Torino to record a win here as they are still looking for their first league win after 22 rounds of Serie A matches (D8, L14). The visitors are the only side in Europe’s ‘Big Five’ leagues without a win this season.

Only two sides in Serie A history have ever failed to notch a win after 23 games, with both those teams predictably going on to finish bottom of the table, a record which makes grim reading for Cremonese fans.

But having won both Napoli and Roma in the Coppa Italia recently, they will still fancy their chances of getting a win in the league. They could do so against an inconsistent Torino side that has recorded just two wins from their last eight league matches (D4, L2).

Meanwhile, Torino is the only SA side not to have scored or conceded in the opening 15 minutes of a home league game this season, so we might not see an early goal in this game. But we can expect a low-scoring affair that will feature Under 2.5 goals.

Getafe vs Valencia: Preview and Expert Football Prediction

Struggling Valencia will travel to Coliseum Alfonso Perez on Monday to face fellow relegation candidates Girona.

The hosts and their visitors are currently sitting in the relegation zone and are the two remaining clubs yet to win a La Liga match this year, making this game a real six-pointer.

But Getafe will at least feel better than their visitors, given that they have at least drawn two of their last six games (L4) during 2023 compared with Valencia’s one (L6).

Those two draws came against two top-six clubs in their last two league outings (1-1 at Atlético Madrid and 1-1 at home to Vallecano), so they appear the more likely of the duo to secure a first La Liga victory of the calendar year.

Meanwhile, Valencia remain in the woods despite sacking their manager Gennaro Gattuso earlier this year. They succumbed to a 2-1 loss to Athletic Bilbao last time despite scoring first in their last game, the visitors. The result was their fifth consecutive loss in all competitions and kept them two points behind the safe zone.

They will want to record a win here but have a poor history in this fixture, having not won in any of their last four visits to this stadium (D1, L3).

Barcelona vs Cadiz: Preview and Expert Football Prediction

After a disappointing midweek outing in Europe, Barcelona will turn their attention to La Liga, where they welcome Cadiz.

Xavi’s men were held to a 2-2 draw with Manchester United in the first leg of their playoff round in the Europa League. The result was the first time they conceded more than one goal in a game since they conceded three against CF Intercity in early October.

However, the Catalan side have conceded just one league goal at home this campaign and are unbeaten in 17 competitive games (W15, D2). Therefore they will be the favourites to record a sure home win and extend their winning run in La Liga to seven games.

However, Cadiz will travel to Nou Camp in a confident mood, having lost just once in their last nine La Liga head-to-heads against Barcelona (W2, D2). The visitors come into this tie on the back of a 2-0 win over Girona.

The result kept them two points above the relegation zone so they will be desperate to keep themselves above the red zone by posting consecutive league wins for the first time since May 2021. Yet, having won just one of their last eight away competitive games (D2, L5), the chance of doing so is slim.

Tottenham vs West Ham: Preview and Expert Football Prediction

After recording a narrow loss to AC Milan in the Champions League, Tottenham will turn their attention to their quest for a top-four finish in the Premier League as they host West Ham this Sunday.

Antonio Conte’s men come into this tie on the back of a 1-0 loss to AC Milan in the UCL. The loss made it two consecutive losses for the North London side following a 4-1 loss to Leicester City in the Premier League last weekend.

Yet, they come into this tie sitting just two points outside the top four and could climb into the top four if they win this game and fourth-placed Newcastle lose to Liverpool.

West Ham made it four games without defeat (W2, D2) last weekend as they held Chelsea to a 1-1 draw, coming from one goal down to draw the game thanks to a goal by former Chelsea player Emerson.

Yet they remain close to relegation, with just two points separating them from the 18th-placed team. They will like to put some daylight between them and the drop zone with a win here.

Having lost just one of their last four PL games against Spurs (W2, D1), they will fancy their chances of getting a win here.

Manchester United vs Leicester City: Preview and Expert Football Prediction

Manchester United will welcome Leicester City to Old Trafford this Sunday for the 24th round of the 2022/23 Premier League season.

The Red Devils come into this tie off the back of a disappointing 2-2 draw with Barcelona in the Europa League. Despite going home with a point from the game, goal-scorer Marcus Rashford revealed that his side felt like they lost the game.

They will look to take three points here, though, and keep their slim chances of winning the PL title alive. Erik ten Hag’s side are on the fringes of a title race as they are just five points off top-spot ahead of the round.

The boss has been reluctant to label his side as contenders. Still, you would back them to at least keep up the pressure on Manchester City and Arsenal with another three-point haul against Leicester City, given they’ve won 13 of their last 14 home games in all competitions (D1).

But Leicester are a team in form, having won their last two games by a combined scoreline of 8-3. The Foxes eased relegation fears with two consecutive comeback wins over Aston Villa and Tottenham in the Premier League.

So they will come into this game in a confident mode. They also have a good record in this fixture, having won three of the last six H2Hs (D2, L1). Yet the fact they have yet to keep a league clean sheet since the World Cup restart means they cannot be backed for a direct win here.

PSG vs Lille: Preview and Expert Football Prediction

Paris Saint-Germain will welcome Lille to Parc des Princes this Sunday in the 24th round of the 2022/23 Ligue 1 season.

Struggling PSG fell to a 1-0 loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League in midweek, taking their losing run in all competitions to three games.

The French champions are in crisis, having already lost as many games in 2023 (five) as they did in 2022. They are looking to avoid a fourth consecutive defeat in the same season for the first time since 2000.

Yet they have retained a five-point lead at the Ligue 1 summit ahead of this round and will fancy their chances of avoiding defeat given they are unbeaten in Ligue 1 at the Parc des Princes in 33 league games (W28, D5).

But Lille are the last side to beat PSG at home, and they may be confident of repeating that act given their form. The Mastiffs are making up lost ground on the European places since the restart, losing just one of their eight league games (W4, D3).

They sit just six points adrift of the UEFA Champions League positions ahead of this round, a gap they could further reduce by securing back-to-back away league victories for the second time this season.
