Sporting Kansas City have been underachieving for some seasons now, finishing either sixth or fifth in the past four years. However, this season they seem to be aiming for a higher position and on current form, they just might get it.
Sporting KC’s last game ended in a draw against Columbus Crew, however, they have lost just once in their last 12 MLS outings and they are currently top of the Western Conference after collecting 25 points from 13 games so far. The other teams behind them may have games in hand on them, but the fact that they are top and keeping pace with the leaders of the Eastern Conference shows that they have really improved.
Minnesota United, on the other hand, cannot really boast of a superb campaign so far as they are currently 8th on the Western Conference table although they are just a point off the playoff spot.
This is only their second season in the MLS, so a finish inside the playoff spot would be classed as a real achievement. They have helped their cause with wins over Orlando City, Montreal Impact, Houston Dynamos and even Chicago Fire, but they don’t have the best away record and that needs to change.
Kansas City have won all of their three home games against Minnesota United and have five wins from the eight meetings between these teams.
