After weeks of speculation about Derek Carr possibly leaving New Orleans after two seasons, it looks like he’ll be back in 2025. Saints GM Mickey Loomis told reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine that the team is “excited” to have him return.
“I think we feel like we’ve got a guy we can win with,” Loomis said, via ESPN’s Katherine Terrell.
The reason why rumors were spreading concerning Carr’s exit was because of his hefty contract. With the Saints projected to be nearly $60 million over the 2025 salary cap, they need to make cuts before the new league year begins on March 12. Carr’s contract, which has a $51.4 million cap hit in 2025, was seen as a way to ease that financial pressure.
