Inter Milan do not intend to keep Romelu Lukaku at the San Siro beyond this summer, their CEO Giuseppe Marotta, has confirmed.
The Belgian joined Inter on loan last year from Chelsea after failing to deliver following his £97m transfer from the Italian club in 2021.
Lukaku helped Inter win the Scudetto in 2021 under Antonio Conte with his goals and assists, one of the major reasons the San Siro side won the title. But things have not worked out well for him since he rejoined Milan. He has struggled for form and fitness, and will now be sent back to Stamford Bridge this summer. He has missed 12 games in Serie A alone this season through injury.

Overall, the Belgian has scored only three goals in the league, and two in the Champions League.
“The loan was for one season so on June 30 regardless of how well he plays. He’ll go back to Chelsea,” Inter CEO told Sky Italia.
“This has been an unprecedented season. I’m referring of course to the World Cup. The problems we’ve experienced have been experienced by other clubs too, and the players who played at the World Cup.
“Lukaku is a case in point. [Marcelo] Brozovic isn’t the Brozovic we know. Lukaku hasn’t found the fitness he needs to play his best football.
“He’s still not at his best or the player we got to see in years gone by.”
After leaving Chelsea acrimoniously, when he granted an interview professing his love for Inter despite being a Chelsea player, it remains to be seen whether fans will welcome Lukaku back at Stamford Bridge.
