Chelsea footballer Sam Kerr has been cleared of accusations that she racially harassed a police officer by calling him “stupid and white.”
The incident happened in the early hours of January 30, 2023, in south-west London. Kerr, 31, and her partner, West Ham player Kristie Mewis, had been out drinking when a taxi driver took them to a police station to complain that they had refused to pay clean-up costs after one of them was sick and that one of them had smashed the vehicle’s rear window.
However, after reviewing the case, a jury decided she was not guilty. The verdict was reached after about four hours of discussion at Kingston Crown Court.
While the judge acknowledged Kerr’s behavior played a role in the situation, he emphasized that the jury had made its decision.
Kerr remained expressionless as the verdict was read but gave a thumbs-up to her lawyer afterward.
