Atletico Madrid will host Sevilla this Saturday in the 24th round of the 2022/23 La Liga season.
In recent seasons, this clash would have represented a top-four clash, but this time, Atletico Madrid are fighting for a place in the Champions League next season, while Sevilla are fighting for survival.
Thanks to a 1-1 draw with Real Madrid last time, Atletico come into this tie on a seven-game unbeaten league run (W4, D3). But a whopping 17-point gap to the summit means it’s now doubtful that the hosts can finish top of La Liga this season despite rumours that this will be the last season of veteran coach Diego Simeone.

But securing consecutive league home wins for the first time this season will at least see them strengthen their position within the top four.
Sevilla come into this fixture sitting just two points above the relegation zone after a 3-2 loss to Osasuna last time.
The Andalusian side have won two of the previous four meetings between both sides (D1, L1), but none came away from home, where Sevilla are winless in their last 13 attempts (D7, L6).
But with this trip immediately followed up by three La Liga contests against sides also in the relegation mire, Jorge Sampaoli will hope to see an inspirational performance in Madrid, where they’re winless (D3, L2) in their last five league visits since beating Getafe in 2021.
