ac milan register olivier giroud as goalkeeper

AC Milan, has signed French striker, Olivier Giroud as one of the goalkeepers in the club after his remarkable save against Genoa.

Last Saturday night, Milan suddenly found themselves in a position where they needed to improvise after their first-team goalkeeper Mike Maignan was given a red card in the 98th minute after the club used all their substitutes.

Maignan got a red card after the VAR showed that he used his knee on Caleb Ekuban of Genoa. As such, an on-field player had to take over as a goalkeeper for the remainder of the match.

In an interesting turn of events, Olivier Giroud is renowned at Arsenal, Chelsea, and France national team as a top goalscorer was assigned the duty of a goalkeeper.

Before the event, AC Milan already had a 1-0 lead at the Luigi Ferraris stadium, thanks to a goal from ex-Chelsea winger, Christian Pulisic in the 87th minute. Hence, Milan pulled out all the stops to escape with a narrow 1-0 victory.

In the 105th minute of the game, the hosts got a good chance to score a very late equalizer when George Pușcaș lurched forward with hopes of getting the end of a leading pass but, Giroud rushed off his line and punched the ball away to keep Milan in the lead.

Due to the unprecedented save, AC Milan decided to register him as not just their striker, but one of the goalkeepers too via their website.

On the list of Milan’s goalkeepers, Olivier Giroud was put ahead of the club’s first-choice goalie Mike Maignan, followed by two backup goalies Antonio Mirante, and Lapo Francesco Maria Nava.
