Liverpool is close to winning their first league title in 30 years, it has taken so long that even the hardened Liverpool fans still don’t believe that the Reds can win this season’s title despite being 13 points clear with a game in hand.
Liverpool is currently the best soccer team in the world after winning the World Club Championship recently, but believing that they can win the league is so much like Betting on Giants.
Pundits on websites like ESPN believe that Liverpool’s title charge has been helped by VAR as their lead would have been halved without the technology.
However, that doesn’t still take anything from this Liverpool side as Jurgen Klopp has built them into a machine that can grind out wins from just about any situation.
The Reds have continued to defy the odds despite also having some tough VAR decision going against them.
The Reds would face Tottenham this weekend looking to set a record that no European side has recorded before.
If Liverpool beats Spurs, they would be the first team to collect 61 points from their first 21 league games in any of Europe’s top five leagues.
To be fair, Liverpool deserves to win this league. How can you explain a team collecting 97 points from 38 league games last season and still not winning the title?
They have been lucky to see their competitors struggle this season, but they deserve full credit for going all out to get the wins they have got.
It is very possible that they would become invincible this season, should they avoid defeat at Manchester City, they would almost certainly win every other side that comes their way, yet I believe that Liverpool can still slip up.
I believe that Jurgen Klopp has built an outstanding team at Anfield, yet I feel Liverpool is just an injury to a key player like Virgil van Dijk away from slipping up.
Manchester City has been less fortunate with injuries this season. Pep Guardiola has had to play much of this season without the likes of Aymeric Laporte and Leroy Sane and it has shown.
Laporte is Manchester City’s best defender at the moment but he has been missing for much of this season, whereas Liverpool has been fortunate enough to have Van Dijk fit for all their league games this season.
Klopp has shown that he has a replacement for almost every position in his team, but I hope he can keep Van Dijk fit for the rest of the league season because the Dutchman is the glue that holds the back together.
