Nolan Arenado has a full no-trade clause that has reduced his chances of getting a deal in the offseason. In December, the Cardinals third baseman reportedly obstructed a trade to the Houston Astros. But if the Red Sox go after him, he will say no.
MassLive.com’s Chris Cotillo and Sean McAdam said on Sunday that Boston is a “preferred destination – if not the preferred destination’’ for Arenado. However, the club’s interest in signing him is unclear.
Early in the offseason, John Denton, beat writer for Cardinals, reported that the Red Sox were one of the six clubs which Arenado will accept a trade from. The Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres, New York Mets, and Philadelphia Phillies were the other five.
Although Boston already has Rafeal Devers as a third baseman, they could move him to first base to create space for Arenado at the hot corner. The eight-time All-Star and 10-time Gold Glove Award winner is signed through 2027.
