raiders hire norv turner as senior advisor after firings

The Las Vegas Raiders have added veteran NFL coach Norv Turner to their coaching staff.

The former Las Vegas head coach will be rejoining the team as a senior advisor, the Raiders announced on Tuesday. Additionally, Turner’s son, Scott, was also promoted from pass game coordinator to interim offensive coordinator. Joe Philbin is now the interim offensive line coach.

Las Vegas sacked offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, QB coach Rich Scangarello and offensive line coach James Cregg after Sunday’s loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Norv Turner led the Raiders in 2004-05 when Al Davis was still the owner. He gathered a 9-23 record over those two seasons. Turner had a 114-122-1 record with the Washington Commanders, Oakland and San Diego, in the 15 NFL seasons he served as head coach.

As one of the most respected offensive minds in the NFL, Turner will correct the mistakes of the three assistants head coach Antonio Pierce fired.

He has not had an NFL job since working as a special assistant to Carolina Panthers’ head coach in 2019 after a short time as offensive coach.
