Manchester United left-back Alvaro Fernandez is on the priority target list this month for Benfica, according to Portugese publication Record (page 11).
Benfica recently entered an agreement with Santos to sign striker Marcos Leonardo. They agreed to pay €18m for his services.
Record claims that Benfica will now face Fernandez, who is presently on a season-long loan deal at Granada from the Red Devils.
The club has discussed with Granada and United. They intend to sign the Spaniard for €7m while parting ways with David Jurasek.
Fernadez has delivered less than 500 La Liga minutes for Granada which is struggling this campaign, but he began the 2-0 victory over Cadiz on Wednesday.
Fernandez may leave Man Utd this winter
Fernandez was with United during pre-season last summer, but he has not yet made a competitive appearance for them.
There was a suggestion that he would stay after Tyrell Malacia injured his knee, but United chose to sign Sergio Reguilon on loan from Tottenham Hotspur.
Reguilon has today returned to Spurs after a break clause was triggered in his contract, but this is unlikely to change the position of Fernandez.
Malacia is expected to return some time this month. Besides him, United have Luke Shaw and Diogo Dalot, who can fit nicely at left-back.
Therefore, there is no surprise that Fernandez will be leaving the club. Experts also report that, Manchester may want a sell-on clause to be added as part of the deal.
If Fernandez becomes a top defender in future, the Red Devils could directly benefit from his success as Befica sets high price tags.
