Bryce Harper is one of the most recognizable faces in the MLB, with the slugger getting hyped up since he was a college prospect. Harper met expectations, winning almost every individual accolade, making unforgettable playoff moments, and generally having a possible Hall of Fame career, with just the World Series left for him to win.
At the time, the 13-year and $330 million contract he signed with the Philadelphia Phillies was the record deal. But that deal is now being looked at as a bargain by most MLB executives, leaving the possibility that Harper and his agent, Scott Boras, may want to rework the contract.
During the New York Post podcast ‘The Show’ with Jon Heyman and Joel Sherman, Scott Boras implied that they may want to negotiate a contract extension with the Phillies or rework the deal, as it does not have any opt-out options inside it.
Bryce Harper still has 8 years left on his contract. When he first signed it, it was the largest contract ever by an MLB player, exceeding the then-record Giancarlo Stanton’s deal. Presently, Harper is the 7th largest in MLB history, being surpassed by the ones signed by Mike Trout, Mookie Betts, Aaron Judge, etc.
As he enters 31 years in 2024, his career is worth almost every cent the Phillies invested in him, leading them to consecutive NLCS appearances in the last two seasons and a World Series one last year, with the Philadelphia Phillies failing to secure the playoff spot since 2011 until 2022.
Harper individually won the 2021 NL MVP and has gathered 18.4 bWAR since signing for the Phillies, having hit 122 HRs in the course of his career with the Philadelphia Phillies.
