LaMelo Ball suffers ankle strain, misses rest of Hornets vs. Magic game

Charlotte Hornets point guard LaMelo Ball was ruled out Sunday after he had a right ankle strain against the Orlando Magic.

Ball had an akward fall in the second quater after attempting a layup against Orlando forward Paolo Banchero and had to be taken to the locker room.

Charlotte later announced that Ball had strained his right ankle and would not be coming back. The ankle LaMelo Ball injured vs. Orlando is the same one he had surger on in March.

Despite Ball’s absence, Magic lead by just 95-92 when Anthony went in for a 3-point play with 10:12 remaining. He stole a pass and sent it to Wagner for two free throws, then assisted Banchero’s 7-foot bank shot. Hornets did not get the lead under five and eventually lost, 130-117.

Ball is having one of the best seasons of his career, averaging career highs in scoring (25.9 ppg) and assists (8.6), while shooting 44.2% from the field and 38.9% on 3s (also career bests). He has not played in a full season and was restricted to 36 games in 2022-23 because of ankle injuries.

Kevin Durant missed his second game in a row because of a sore right foot, leaving him incapable of playing in his first Phoenix match in New York since he was traded last February from Brooklyn.

Durant worked out on the court before the match to test his foot, but Suns later announced that he would be absent again.

Phoenix won 116-113 despite Kevin’s absence as Devin Booker struck a tiebreaking 3-pointer with 1.7 seconds left (en route to a 28-point, 11-assist performance) to seal the victory.

The injury stopped Durant from extending his winning streak that dates back to a decade and all the way back to his original NBA franchise.

He has won the last matches that he’s played in against the Knicks, and did not lose them at all while he was with the Golden State Warriors and Brooklyn Nets.

His last loss was April 7, 2013 with Oklahoma City Thunder.

Kevin Durant was hoping to comeback after missing the Suns’ win at Memphis on Friday because of the foot injury.

Liverpool still has its sights on Fluminense despite reports of the club abandoning its interest in Andre Trindade. The team joined a host of other clubs in the Premier League that are tracking teenage sensation Matheus Reis, according to Calciomercato (per Sport Witness).

The main priority in all of this, remains the back and midfield, should they find an acceptable option to strengthen the centre of defence or the No.

6 position.

It remains to be seen if there is any player that is good enough to rival Alexis Mac Allister or compete with Jarell Quansah for minutes.

Panthers dismiss Frank Reich after 1-10 start to first season in Carolina

Frank Reich had a tenure with the Carolina Panthers that lasted only 11 games.

Carolina fired him on Monday after a 1-10 start to the 2023 season, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapport and Tom Pelissero reported, via sources informed of the situation.

Special teams coordinator Chris Tabor will take over as the interim head coach, according to Rapoport.

The club later confirmed the move, announcing senior assistant Jim Caldwell will act as a special advisor to offensive coordinator Thomas Brown, who will begin play-calling.

“I met with Coach Reich this morning and informed him that he will not continue as head coach of the Carolina Panthers,” owner David Tepper said in a statement on Monday. “I want to thank Frank for his dedication and service, and we wish him well. Effective immediately, Special Teams Coordinator Chris Tabor will serve as our interim head coach. Senior Assistant Jim Caldwell will be a special advisor to Offensive Coordinator Thomas Brown, who will take over play calling duties.

Reich has had a rough season in Carolina as the Panthers showed poor signs of growth. Things escalated after several in-game mismanagement issues in Sunday’s 17-10 loss to the Tennesse Titans.

The issues were enough grounds for Tepper to be done with Frank Reich after only 11 matches.

Reich’s offense has been difficult, weighed down by poor blocking, a non-existent run game, and a receiver crew lacking in playmakers. Worst of all were the struggles of No.1 overall pick Bryce Young. The quarterback has shown poor habits amid the losses and rarely displays playmaking ability. Frank assigning play-calling to Brown and then taking them back did not help Carolina’s inconsistent offense.

Considering the amount the Panthers invested in Young, including conceding 2024 first-round pick, which presently sits No.1 overall, watching the young signal-caller make progress is essential in the final six matches.

Ownership obviously did not believe the development would come with Reich in charge.

Now it is up to Brow and Caldwell to change the story of Carolina during the season.
