Liverpool and Arsenal have been handed a major boost after Schalke 04 confirmed that one of the Premier League’s duos target would be leaving after this season.
The two Premier League teams have been tracking Max Meyer for the past few seasons and one of them could get their man this summer after the German youngster decided not to renew his current deal.
Meyer is one of the most highly rated youngsters in Germany at the moment and he has refused to sign a new long-term deal with Schalke, choosing to run down his current deal.
The Germans have tried for the past 18 months to get him to sign a new deal, but they have finally decided to give up the fight for his future.
Club director Christian Heidel said: “At the moment we can and must expect that Max leaves the club in the summer.
“Everything suggests that.
Jurgen Klopp is a known admirer of the youngster and he seems to want Meyer as a replacement for Emre Can who is also leaving for free at the end of this season.
Arsenal are also hoping to use the influence of their new chief scout, Sven Mislintat to get ahead of the Reds.
