Edwin Diaz made quite a first impression in his Dodgers debut Friday night.<\/p>\n
The closer entered from the Dodger Stadium bullpen to his signature song, Timmy Trumpet’s “Narco,” with a twist. Los Angeles-based trumpeter Tatiana Tate performed the song live inside the stadium as Diaz walked in from left field.<\/p>\n
Diaz then did his job, striking out two of the four batters he faced to close out a 5-4 Dodgers win over the Diamondbacks and earn his first save of the season.<\/p>\n
“I was surprised a little bit,” Diaz said. “I heard a trumpet sounding before I was coming out. I said, ‘No way, they got a live trumpet.’ It was pretty fun. I enjoyed it, and I know fans enjoyed it, too.”<\/p>\n
Manager Dave Roberts had a feeling the moment was coming.
\n“I got word that there might be a trumpet player,” Roberts said. “I was hoping to get him in there, and it worked out. I think the fans got what they were hoping for.”<\/p>\n
Diaz has used “Narco” as his entrance song throughout his career with the Mets. One of the most memorable versions came in August 2022, when Timmy Trumpet performed the song live from the third-base line at Citi Field during a Mets win over the Dodgers.
