Atlanta United have bolstered their midfield with the loan signing of Mat\u00edas Galarza from Argentine giants River Plate, the club confirmed Monday.<\/p>\n
The 24-year-old Paraguay international joins on loan through June 30 with a purchase option included. He will occupy an international roster spot.<\/p>\n
“Mat\u00edas is a talented young player who will add energy and intensity to our midfield,” said chief soccer officer and sporting director Chris Henderson. “At 24 years old, he’s played in multiple big games in South America at both the club and international level. We’re excited to welcome him to Atlanta.”<\/p>\n
Galarza brings solid experience to the Five Stripes, having made 151 professional appearances across spells in Brazil with Coritiba and Vasco da Gama, and in Argentina with Talleres and River Plate, contributing 10 goals and six assists along the way. He has also earned 13 caps for Paraguay, scoring twice, and played a role in helping his country qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
\nGalarza is the latest in a string of South American signings under head coach Tata Martino, following goalkeeper Lucas Hoyos, left back El\u00edas Baez and midfielder Tom\u00e1s Jacob. He could feature at this summer’s World Cup alongside Atlanta teammate Miguel Almir\u00f3n.
