When the Buffalo Sabres <\/a>travel to Munich for the 2024 NHL Global Series Challenge Germany presented by Fastenal on September 27th, they will\u00a0 not just be playing a preseason game.\u00a0Rather it will be a special match for Peterka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Sabres will be performing the hometown of JJ Peterka and playing his former team, EHC Red Bull M\u00fcnchen, and it happens that it will be during Oktoberfest. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019re going to be all in the lederhosen,\u201d Peterka said at the European Player Media Tour on Aug. 21.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That is right, the Sabres will spend some down time dressed in the traditional leather shorts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey\u2019ll fit somehow,\u201d Peterka said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even for a guy like Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, the 6-foot-5 goalie?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWell, I think I don\u2019t have an option,\u201d Luukkonen said. \u201cBut I think it\u2019s going to be very fun.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It will be a special event for Peterka and Munich. Combined with two regular-season matches against the New Jersey Devils <\/a>in Prague. The 2024 NHL Global Series Czechia presented by Fastenal on October 4-5 will help the Sabres bond.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019re expecting big things from JJ, what he\u2019s going to set up for us,\u201d Luukkonen said. \u201cIt should be a very fun trip, and it\u2019s always something special to go see and play where somebody\u2019s from.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Peterka was born and bred in Munich. He grew up watching EHC M\u00fcnchen and later played for the club at Olympia Eishalle. The old arena hosted 6,256 and had the atmosphere of most European rinks, complemented by fans beating drums. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
