New York Mets <\/a>reliever Jorge L\u00f3pez apologized to his teammates, coaches, fans and front office\u2019\u2019 for his actions and comments. L\u00f3pez’s words he was ejected from the Mets\u2019 10-3 defeat to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday, led to the team designating him for assignment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an Instagram post written in Spanish-language, L\u00f3pez wrote: \u201cI had no intention of disparaging the New York Mets organization.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L\u00f3pez was sent out of the match for arguing a check swing with third-base umpire Ramon DeJesus. He flung his glove into the Citi Field stands as he left the field. Afterward, L\u00f3pez showed no remorse for that action, saying in a post match interview that he had no regrets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Much of the backlash surrounding his interview came from a debate whether he had referred to the Mets as  \u201cthe worst team in the whole [expletive] MLB\u201d or called himself \u201cthe worst teammate in the whole [expletive] MLB.\u201d In his post, L\u00f3pez clarified that he was referring to himself as \u201cthe worst teammate,\u201d which was a shift from what he told a team official in Spanish immediately after the interview.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cUnfortunately, my efforts to address the media in English created some confusion and generated headlines that do not reflect what I was trying to express.” This is what the translated text of L\u00f3pez\u2019s Instagram post read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before Thursday\u2019s match, manager Carlos Mendoza refused to discuss why the club designated L\u00f3pez for assignment, stating: \u201cWe have standards here. I told you guys yesterday behaviors like that, we\u2019re not going to tolerate that. That\u2019s why we made the decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhen you\u2019re not playing well, guys will show emotions. There\u2019s frustrations. But there\u2019s a fine line, and yesterday, we went over that line. And we\u2019re not going to tolerate that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Mets, who officially designated Jorge for assignment on Thursday afternoon, have seven days to trade him or place him on outright or unconditional release waivers. He has a good chance of another club signing<\/a> him because of his relatively low $2 million salary and effective results so far this campaign, including a 3.76 ERA in 28 appearances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
