Tottenham has announced a new \u2018legacy initiative\u2019 involving registering all the players who played for the club. Every Spurs player who has made a competitive appearance for the club since its first match in 1894 has been assigned a unique number.

The number will be written on the back of match shirts beneath the collar, starting with Tottenham\u2019s next Premier League game against Crystal Palace <\/a>on Friday night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tottenham Spurs\u2019 starting XI in their FA Cup tie against West Herts on 13 October 1894 have been assigned numbers one to 11, with a total of 879 players given a number in chronological order of their appearance for the team.

These include Bill Nicholson (#354), Danny Blanchflower (#420), Jimmy Greaves (#4480, Pat Jennings (#455), Steve Perryman (#477), Glenn Hoddle (#498), Ossie Ardiles (#511), Gary Mabbutt (#538), Ledley King (#649), Gareth Bale (#726), Harry Kane (#767) and Heung-Min Son (#805).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alejo Veliz, who recently made his competitive debut against Liverpool on 30th September, is #879 – currently the last number on the evolving list, which was compiled using \u201cextensive research from club historians\u2019\u2019.
