Tottenham Hotspur have sacked acting head coach Cristian Stellini following their embarrassing loss to Newcastle United on Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The North London side were humiliated as they were beaten 6-1 at Newcastle on Sunday. Stellini described the performance as the worst he has ever seen, but he has now paid for the display with his job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spurs released a statement on Monday night to confirm the decision, with club chairman Daniel Levy wishing the Italian well in his future endeavours. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Cristian will leave his current role along with his coaching staff,” the statement said.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Cristian stepped in at a difficult point in our season, and I want to thank him for the professional manner in which he and his coaching staff have conducted themselves during such a challenging time. We wish him and his staff well.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ryan Mason, a coach under Stellini, will take over first-team management. The 31-year-old is understood to have significant support from Spurs’ players to take the team until the end of the season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This will be the second time he is acting in that capacity, having also acted as interim head coach in 2021 after Jose Mourinho was sacked. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Ryan Mason will take over head coach duties with immediate effect. Ryan knows the club and the players well. We shall update further on his coaching staff in due course,” Levy’s statement continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I met with the player committee today – the squad is determined to pull together to ensure the strongest possible finish to the season. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We are all clear we need to deliver performances which earn your amazing support.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
