Defending MLS Cup champions LA Galaxy delivered a powerful statement in their 2025 Leagues Cup opener, routing Club Tijuana 5-2 on Thursday night at Dignity Health Sports Park.
Despite sitting last in the MLS standings, the LA Galaxy attack clicked into gear. Joseph Paintsil led the charge with two goals and an assist, while Gabriel Pec, Marco Reus, and Matheus Nascimento also got on the scoresheet. Nascimento added an assist in the convincing win.
“This game was really important because, as you know, our season wasn’t good,” Paintsil told Apple TV. “This was important for us to take the three points.”
Veteran midfielder Diego Fagúndez echoed the sentiment: “When this team scores goals, we can win games.”
The result sends a clear message; the Galaxy aren’t done yet.
